Diane di Prima Reads at Bird & Beckett books

September 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · appearances, signings

Two incredible poets — Diane di Prima & Maria Mazziotti Gillan — will be reading at Bird & Beckett Books in San Francisco’s Glen Park neighborhood! (Easy access via BART and other public transit.)

Diane’s importance to modern poetry since the 1950s is well documented, well understood and well appreciated. From Revolutionary Letters to Loba, and before and beyond, Diane has given us a lifetime of insight and wisdom and scribbles furiously away as we speak!

Please visit this link: www.octopusfilmvideo.com for wonderful background information on Diane and a forthcoming film about her.

Maria is likewise well-known and appreciated for her body of work as a poet and for her role as an educator, activist and editor.

Her books of poetry include, among others, All That Lies Between Us and Italian Ladies in Black Dresses.  She has long understood the use of poetry to explore personal and societal dimensions of the American immigrant and multicultural fabric.

She directs the Poetry Center at Pasaic County Community College in Paterson, New Jersey (a city long associated with William Carlos Williams and Allen Ginsberg) and edits the Paterson Poetry Review.

Please visit Maria Mazziotti Gillan for more information about Maria’s poetry.
