Andr? Franquin in his work for the Belgian magazine Spirou created a style of comics that deviated from the "Clear Line" style of the rival magazine Tintin. While Tintin emphasized educational realism, Franquin (with J. Gillain, Morris and M. Tillieux) emphasized humor and caricature using a "rounder" animation influenced drawing style. In 1946, he took over the "Adventures of Spirou" series and made it his own creating supporting characters, human and animal (the Marsupilami) and giving it the energy of the post-war period. In 1959, he created the character of Gaston Lagaffe one of the first non-heroes of the comics. An employee at Spirou's publisher, G.L. went to great lengths to avoid any type of work while inventing improbable machines and experimenting with dangerous appliances. His weekly half-page gags on the cover of the magazine were a guaranteed laugh all through the 60s when they were expanded to a full page, and into the 70s. They have been reprinted chronologically in 18 volumes. The drawing style created in the 50s by Franquin and his peers was a major influence on Chaland and a whole generation of cartoonists. In this book, Volume 13 in the "Spirou et Fantasio" series, a dinosaur is revived and wreaks havoc in the Belgian countryside.
