A Xeric grant-winner. A strange young girl hates all food, and indeed the entire concept of eating. She stops eating, and begins to see bowling-ball shaped ghosts, who eat her food for her. Her problems seem solved when she starts eating the ghosts... but of course, it's not that simple. Beautifully drawn, contrasty and vivid, with some deeply and profoundly weird stuff about food, hunger, and consumption. Excellent.

this book will make your mind IMPLODE!

by Oakland Pete

This is my favorite graphic novel of all time. Beautifully grotesque artwork. A compelling story of gluttony, starvation, consumption, obsession, fantasy, insanity, and Tom Hanks. I think of Rob Sato as a modern Winsor McCay, pushing the illustrated story with an amazing talent for linework and contrast. This is a heavy book in both content and art. At only 8 bucks, you should definately buy it now or regret it for the rest of your life.

The only thing cooler than sliced bread is Burnt Sandwiches.

by A. Haskell

Came across this lovely gem of graphic storytelling while visiting one of my favorite bookstores in Los Angeles. Bought it, read it while I was on the bus and was so engrossed in the book, I missed my stop. Went back to the store and bought a few more copies to share with friends. It's a wonderfully unique tale and a perfect marriage between written word and comic book illustration. It reads like a contemporary fable or myth. I also laughed out loud quite a lot, which - on a bus - makes one look like a crazy person. I really hope to see more of Sato's comic book work in the future. I think he's swonderful. His other artwork is also worth looking into. Go Rob. Rob for President! Cheerio.
